| Between County Kerry, where we live and – a few miles further – County Kerry there is the probably funniest tunnel in Europe. It was broken into the rock at the beginning of the 19th century.
| Only after those years of hard labour could the two populations meet (and mix). Sometimes we think they are still centuries apart from each other.

Kurz vorm Tunnel der Blick nach Südosten: County Cork, unsere unmittelbare Umgebung. | Shortly before driving into the tunnel: this is the view southeastwards over County Cork, our near surroundings.
| From the other side of the tunnel you have a great view over County Kerry. Behind the MacGillycuddy’s Reeks (they include the highest mountain in Ireland – the Carrauntoohil – there is the tiny airport named Kerry where we collected our son and his girlfriend, who spent two weeks in Germany.

| After 20 minutes of descending you cross the suspension bridge over Kenmare River, which is actually not a river but part of the Atlantic ocean.

| On our way to the airport we soon cross the “river” again. This is my favourite Irish brigde (as long as nobody else comes from the other direction). All over the road edges you see the flowering montbretias.
Der Blick von der schnuckeligen Brücke. | The view from the tiny bridge.

| Inviting entrance to a clinic of a family doctor in Kenmare (sorry, it’s slightly blurred as I took it from the driving car).

| Late afternoon in Glengarriff, our tiny village. Today the light is very favourable. There isn’t much more than an few shops and pubs.
| Only one km further there is the 3** Eccles Hotel, it has accomodated guests – among them many famous poets and writers – for about 300 years. It was the center of the village in those times.
| I discovered the announcement about the new partnership of Frankfurt and Tralee at the airport. The later is famous for the yearly election of the Rose of Tralee. The wife of the co-owner of a well known Swiss company of essential oils once owned the title.
